Faith and Fashion

I currently go to Life Pacific College and am on the track to getting my Bachelor's in Biblical Studies. I know what you may thinking, and I have wondered the same thing, "how does that fit in with fashion?". As I am at school in the books and in constant conversations about who God is and what this means for the world, I am reminded that God is in everything. I wanted to share my faith with everyone to show that my love for the Lord is why I do what I do. It is why I love seeing the beauty in other's fashion.

As I step out in my boldness by creating this website and blog, I want to share my faith with the world. If you are the only one ever to read this I have accomplished something. Whether this impacts one life or multiple, I know that God uses fashion and stories of others to make an impact. It is through jewelry and clothing where we can see the heart of others that truly can make an impact.

An example where jewelry can make an impact is through the organization The Giving Keys. The Giving Keys are a huge fashion statement at our school and in the Southern California area. This organization makes keys that you can wear as a necklace or bracelet that say a word. This word is something that describes who you are, who others think you are, what you want to overcome, or who you portray yourself to the world. They are supposed to represent a story and that story is meant to be shared, much like what I love to do through fashion.

Flaw·less: flôləs/adjective without any blemishes or imperfections; perfect.

As much as I want to say that I am flawless, I am not. I am not perfect or without flaw, but nobody is. My lovely roommate, Jessica Watchie, gave this giving key to me that made me cry. She knows my love of Beyonce and how she is a model on how I want to live my life. Jess said I embody Beyonce and a flaw I have is being too hard on myself, so she wants me to believe that I can be Flawless, like the Yonce.  I know that I have flaws and they make me who I am, but it is nice to know that through these flaws I can still be fierce and rock the key that says "flawless".

Seen: sēn/verb: perceive with the eyes

The greatest strive for many people is to be seen, to be noticed, to have a place somewhere in this world. In my life, I have battled with insecurity and validation of being seen by others. I have battled, sacrificed, and strived to do what I could to be “good enough” for everyone else, neglecting uniqueness of myself in a battle to be everyone else. In December 2015, I was given this key as a gift from my roommate and with it a simple note contained in the box:

“You are seen & loved by God & others. I love you J."

It wasn’t in my desperate trying that I was seen, but in my being. It’s was the simplicity of who I am that  God seeks and sees me. Genesis 16:13 is a simple truth from the broken women, “You are the God who sees me,” and it was in this passage that I found peace in the midst of chaos. I am seen by God, who created me exactly the way I am. - Jessie Fure

Bloom: verb: \ˈblüm\: to mature into achievement of one's potential; to flourish in youthful beauty, freshness, or excellence

As 2016 comes into full swing, I am motivated, just as I am every New Year, to grasp the year with full force and ambition. Unfortunately, that fresh motivation begins to fade when rubber eventually meets the road. I decided that this year is going to be different. I am going to take this year to bloom into who I want to be. When 2017 comes around, I want to be able to say, “I fully embraced who I am this year and grew the confidence to glow.” So this year, I vow to cultivate myself, explore new things, flourish with laughter, and do things I love. - Becca Mundt
